*Video endoscopes with thermal imaging functions typically emit two types of light or radiation: Visible light (LED illumination): Many video endoscopes are equipped with integrated LEDs to illuminate dark or hard-to-reach areas. The light is usually white, but some models also offer infrared illumination (for better visibility in dark areas without visible lighting). Infrared radiation (thermal imaging camera): The thermal imaging function does not use active lighting, but instead detects the infrared radiation (IR) emitted by objects. This radiation is invisible to the human eye, but is converted by the camera into a color-coded thermal image. The display shows a false color representation in which warm areas appear red and cold areas appear blue, for example. The video endoscope emits visible light (LED) for illumination, while the thermal imaging function receives passive infrared radiation from objects but does not emit any IR radiation itself.
