Fluid light guides are a perfect alternative to bundled quartz glass fibers

Liquid-filled optical fibers have undeniable advantages over optical fibers made of bundled quartz glass fibers. Their superiority stems from their design. This is because a liquid optical fiber behaves like a single quartz glass fiber with an exceptionally large diameter. The light passes through the optical fiber via total internal reflection across its entire cross-section. In bundled fiber-optic cables, on the other hand, the space between the quartz glass fibers is lost for light transmission. Our fluid-filled optical fibers therefore deliver a higher light intensity to the destination than bundled quartz glass fibers.

Fluid light guides are flexible in many ways

Thanks to their liquid core and plastic jacket, our light guides do not break. Bundled optical fibers break due to material fatigue when bent frequently. The significantly larger aperture of our fluid light guides ensures high efficiency and supports the exceptionally wide range of applications for these light guides. Wherever highly homogeneous, high-intensity light is required, our fluid light guides are ideal for transmitting light. We manufacture light guides for a wide range of spectra, from ultraviolet to infrared. They are available with a variety of end pieces.

Limitations of Fluid Light Guides

There are few restrictions on the use of fluid light guides. The cross-section of the light guides is always round. They can only withstand extreme temperatures temporarily. Fluid light guides prefer environmental conditions in which humans can also function well.

Four proven standard light guides

To date, we have developed four types of fluid optical fibers, which differ primarily in the optical properties of their liquids. The following graphs and tables show the various transmission spectra and other specifications of our optical fibers. Our optical fibers are available in a wide range of cross-sections and with various jackets. We also supply different connectors with up to four poles.
